Several grants and scholarships for students and teachers studying the arts have been continued by the foundation for the legacy of late Winthrop University professors Cynthia Fur.
It
was in April 2009 where a crash near Lake Wylie took the lives of Furr and her
daughter, McAllister. The accident was caused by other two cars that were
racing at the speed of 100 mph. Having worked as an English professor in the
high school in Charlotte, Furr was also an accomplished musician as well as
pianist where her family was from Chester.
The
CindyMackie Foundation was started by Sharion Furr with the hope of keeping the
legacy of her sister in the field of learning, teaching as well as love for the
performing arts alive. It was seen that in the past four years, an amount of
$70,000 was raised and given away by the foundation to both aspiring teachers
and students in North and South Carolina where the current year crosses a total
of more than $10,000.
Sharon
Furr said that it brought them joy for each extraordinary individual where she
hoped that it would live out the legacy inspired by Cindy.
The
recipients for this year scholarship are Melinda Abercrombie, Emily Rzepka,
twins Patrick Wheless and Helena Wheless, Ella Campbell, Carrie Dansby and
Carlo Dawson.
